The Technical Sales Support Engineer uses technical knowledge along with sales skills to provide advice and support on a range of products, for which a certain level of expertise is needed. The incumbent liaises regularly with other members of the sales team and colleagues from a range of departments with quotes and proposals for new clients from a technical perspective. This position is part of the Sales Engineering Team (SET.)



Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Participates in SET activities, advising Director, Product Management and is an active participant in other planning sessions

Collaborates with the design, production, engineering, or research and development departments of the company to determine how products and services could be made or modified to suit the needs of the customer

Uses technical skills to demonstrate to potential customers the usefulness of the product or service and how it may suit the customer better than competing products

Prepares and delivers technical presentations explaining products or services to internal customers and prospective external customers

Assists in research and development new products across specific business lines

Communicates directly with internal and external customers either on the phone or in email providing technical support

Confers with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine customer requirements

Collaborates with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide sales support

Plans and modifies products to meet customer needs

Helps customers solve problems with installed equipment

Recommends improved materials or machinery to customers, showing how changes will lower costs or increase production



Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

BS degree in engineering discipline or 3-5 years of relevant experience

Experience and familiarity with company products and lines of business a plus

Time management and organizational skills

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Strong computer skills Microsoft Suite, CRM/ERP/MSRP

Occasional travel required

Must be able to work in the US



Competencies

Previous experience as an Applications Engineer (working with customers, engineering analysis, design, making proposals, etc.) is required

Requires effective oral and written communication skills, including customer-oriented telephone skills. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization and also individuals outside of the organization

Must be self-starter with the capacity and motivation to learn new things
